RE: They Got Me!!!

Wow what a cool device! What a joke LOL and for only 225 dollars too!:R
While I am not a thief and would like an opportunity to wring a thieves neck personally messing with my converter, I am not a complete idiot either. Who does American Welding think they are fooling?
Aircraft cable that can only be cut by industrial cutting machines?? LOL
that cable looks like (to my eyes) no more than 7X19 stainless wire rope (commonly used on sailboat rigging, decorative handrail applications) in perhaps 3/16" or 1/4" diameter with a simple aluminum dead end ferrule swaged on each end to form the CAGE shown in the pics.
No special machines required to cut that, in fact a person with strong hands and a pair of Swiss made Felco brand C-7 wire rope cutters could do it
.Move up to the C-9 and you will now cut that same wire rope like butter!
I mean sure, it may slow a determined thief down, but not by more than another 60 seconds with the proper tools.
How do I know all of this if I am not a thief? I worked in a rigging shop for over 13 years. The cat-clamp is purely a device meant to be sold to those with fear/insecurity about their catalytic converter being stolen.
Cool Mike: do you realize what kind of a rattle you would have with one of those cables running down the center of a Cat? you think the heatshields rattle when the spot welds come loose. Also how do you propose the cable pass through the honeycomb section of the CC? Just wondering, not attacking you for your concept.

RE: Ford V10 Verses Chevy 6.0 V8 Which is better?

Although my statement earlier may have seemed witty, I speak from experience.
I have owned both the 6.0 V8 Chevy as well as the 6.8 V10 Ford. Both are/were on 23.5 and 24.5 foot class C MHs. The Chevy chassis was 2003 and the Ford IS a 1999
I prefer the venerable Ford V10 over the Chevy v8 EVERYDAY!!
Plus, 99 out of every 100 Ambulance drivers can't be wrong.

RE: Ford V10 Verses Chevy 6.0 V8 Which is better?

Ford all the way!!!! Everyday!!
There is a reason why Ambulances are RARELY seen with a Chevrolet chassis. You want to get to the hospital when you are hurting right?
Ford with a V10...the only way to go.

RE: DaynNite shades

I believe you loosen the screw that holds the little spool to the wall that the cord wraps around. After you loosen the screw wind up each spool with a bit more tension on the cordage. Do each side evenly so that the pleats of the blinds will hang level. after you add more tension to the cords tighten up the screw that holds the spool to the wall a little in order for the tension to stay held. Then your blinds should stay wherever you adjust them to. Mine hold no matter where they are st at on the bumpiest of roads too.

RE: Oven vs Microwave

I once owned a Coachmen freedom class C and it lacked a regular oven. It only had a microwave, not a convection microwave. All I can say is that I only owned that 2004 turd for 2 weeks. Hated it. It had a shower pan for a shower too. Not a full enclosure, but a plastic tray you stood in with the walls being the same ole panelling that was in the rest of the MH. Hated it. I got rid of that hooptee and bought an older Winnebago that had an oven under the cooktop, and a full shower enclosure. I wouldnt have a MH without a gas oven.
I am sure that an oven is a waste of space if you dont know how to cook.

RE: Hoover Dam aka Boulder Dam

yeah lots of lots as you cross the dam. Big enough for the many tour buses that cross daily to pull over and let out the folks. I believe some of the lots have staircases/elevators down to lower levels

RE: Honda 1000 watt generator or 2000 watt generator?

After reading what you have described about your tent trailer useage I would choose the Honda 1000. I have a Honda 1000 for almost 3 years now,. I use it as you are intending to use it with my small class C MH. I use it every single day as I do not go to campgrounds with AC hookup very often. I run it for about 6 hours each day. I keep notes in regards to total time, oil change interval, and air filter cleaning intervals. It holds 5/8 of a gallon and will run about 7 hours on that amount and I rarely/never take it off the eco throttle setting. It is very quiet. If I need more juice to run the AC or microwave I will unplug from the Honda and plug into the Onan that is onboard. I would think that the 1000 would do well for you and weighs in under 30 pounds.

RE: Inverter or not?

That sounds like an inverter. If you can turn on the switch and hear the fan run THEN WITHOUT being plugged into shore power OR have the generator running get 110v out of some (or all) of your receptacles, you have an inverter.

RE: n00b question?? pitch/bending wheels

I think it is normal when doing tight turning manuevers.
You wanna see twisting and hear horrible noises? Go to the RV dealer and watch the guys that operate the forklifts in the lot as they move around huge 5ers with triple axles. They turn them things on their own axis and the tires skid sideways while it looks as if the axles are going to be torn from the leaf springs they are attached to :E

RE: First Things First...2000 Minnie 31

I own a 2000 Minnie. Mine is the 24 ft. I am second owner. It has 17,985 miles on the E350 V-10 when I bought it. The V-10 is smooooooth and strong.
Look for tires that say Firestone. They were OEM.
Look under the hood for wrinkled sheet metal.
Look for ABS light on after engine is started. If it is you might be able to get some $$ of the price then fix it easily for about 30 dollars with genuine Ford part (rear axle speed sensor located on center differential housing on top, plug and play with one mounting bolt and one electrical connector).
Check each appliance for proper function, starting with the generator. Then the A/C as the generator will be running.
Look on rooftop for broken vent covers, Refrigerator vent cover. Also take notice of the condition of the grey seam sealant used at the joints for cracking. The roof top is fiberglass.
Look underneath at the rubber couplers (3"X3") that join the holding tank outlets to the piping that goes to the waste valves. They may be dry and cracking. Mine were and then one started to leak (grey water tank) the first time I used it. No biggie as they were only 13 bucks each and I replaced both of them at the RV store right in the parking lot after I dumped and rinsed the tanks at their dump station. Might be a bargaining tool again $$.
As stated above the cruise control is a simple recall. If the Master cylinder is leaking ANY brake fluid it could be dangerous. I took mine to Ford and there was no fixit parts so the service guy disconnects it. That was 5 months ago and IO have still not received a call from Ford telling me the fixit part is in. I hooked mine right back up and use the cruise all the time. My M/C doesnt leak so I am not worried about it in the least.
I believe the 2000 Winnebago Minnie is a good unit and as good as any of the others of the period. It took me 6 months of looking every single day to find mine. That and about 7000 miles on my Ford Taurus looking at other junkers.
Did you by chance purchase the one on Ebay about a week ago?? just wondering as there was a 2000 Minnie 31ft that sold quick with a buy now of 24995 and if my memory is correct it was in Tennessee.
Hope you like it and good luck. Ron
Edit: after reading your last post it does sound like the one on Ebay. That is a hella nice MH the ABS light is a simple fix and the part is 30 bucks at the dealer. Be careful though as I went to the dealer to have it fixed and they TRIED to get me for over 900 dollars to fix it by telling me a lie about what the actual faulty part was. Do it yourself in about 15 minutes or less.

Hey it looks okay. If you like it I like it.
Also, if you were next to me and had them on I would not be offended.
My first thought when I saw your pictures in your post was "you got a Fast and Furious trailer"!

RE: Nylon straps?

I will add my 2 cents since I have been an industrial sewing machine operator for 13 years. You NEVER want to tie something down with NYLON. Ratchet straps are made from POLYESTER as poly does not have alot of stretch. NYLON straps are made for lifting or pulling (if you have to) because nylon has some stretch (usually about 10%). If you tie down a load with a nylon strap/rope it will loosen as you drive. 1" motorcycle style, 2" and 4" wide truck tie-downs are all made of polyester. If you have to tie-down the camper in this fashion in order to move it, make sure you protect the strap from cutting as it passes over corners of your load. Layers of cardboard at the very least. Good luck and be safe as the penalties if you have an accident can be very severe.

RE: Second mystery leak, wet underneath mattress?

I think it could be from body moisture. On my rear bed 24 ft MH the water tank is below the bed. There are a couple of cutouts in the platform to access the drains, water pump, water heater bypass valves, etc. One day I thought I would use a piece of coroplast (corogated plastic) to kind of cover the access holes and make for a sturdier mattress at those points. Well after a couple days went by I lifted the mattress for some odd reason and mine was damp too! I got rid of the coroplast and put a piece of cardboard over those holes instead. I think the wood paneling baseboard and cardboard allow it to breathe a bit more than a plastic barrier would. I also think this occurance is worse in the winter with cooler temps.

Why yes, Yes it does. It suggests that like most rags, I mean magazines, that they were paid by Garmin to be biased about the outcome of their so called tests.

get the 720, sell it on ebay. Then go get the tomtom one and pocket the extra $$ to offset the cost of fuel. Thats my personal recommendation
